The town on three rivers
Alongside the Inn to Passau
Follow the Inn in a northerly direction, and within no time you reach Passau. By car it takes 20 minutes, the journey is also possible by bicycle along the romantic promenade. The Bavarian town Passau close to the Austrian border is renowned for its unique location: The baroque old town is to be found on a peninsular surrounded by the water from three rivers. In Passau the Danube, Inn and Ilz unite to become one. Most of the Danube cruises heading towards the Black sea begin their journey here. Also the route from Schärding – Passau can be taken by water: An Inn ship does the journey in around an hour.
Walk through the old town and take a look down the historical alleys. Stroll around the well-presented shops and enjoy the tastes of the region with a glass of beer in one of the many inviting pubs. Most of the sightseeing destinations, firstly the Residence and Town Hall, also the churches and museums are to be found in the historical town centre. In St. Stephen’s cathedral the largest cathedral organ in the word can be heard. A guided tour through the small alleys comes highly recommended, or - if you prefer to be on the water – a round trip on the three rivers, where you can admire the houses of the baroque town.
