A plethora of art and culture

The former commercial hub is a hot spot for cultural activity

Schärding is located on the Austrian bank of the Inn river, marking the border to Bavaria. Its colourful townscape is lined with enchanting town houses from the 16th to 19th centuries. Amidst all this glory stands Hotel Forstinger, a baroque building from the 17th century. The famous Silberzeile row of late-baroque houses is right on our doorstep. Another interesting feature is Schärding’s town wall and medieval gates, most of which is still in good condition. And even the picturesque Inn promenade is only a short walk away from the hotel.

A diverse leisure programme offers many options whether you’re looking for culture or physical activity. Art lovers tend to gravitate towards the Alfred Kubin gallery with its many temporary exhibitions in the nearby town of Wernstein. Other places of interest include the Heimathaus museum, the castle gallery and the Schärding relaxation path. Enjoy a boat trip on the Inn river or go on a guided history tour of the old town. Once a year, Schärding is the starting point for the Race Around Austria bicycle race. There is always something going on in Schärding, and at Hotel Forstinger you are at the heart of the action!
